NBC Olympics

Sep ‘14

We started the NBC Onlympis project for Rio 2016 1 year prior to allow enough time for design and development. We were tasked with designing a responsible web experience to publish real-time news throughout the games. The discovery phase was a bit over a month where UX and strategy dived deep into all the intricansies of the event schedule, adververtising and how to best feature the latest and greatest while we explored the visual design language for it. The look & feel was inspired by the Rio branding. The project continued after I left Code and Theory but here are the designs up to the point I was there. NBC used this design framework for the following Winter Olympics.

Design Moodboards - #1

During the discovery phase we explored 2 distinct directions. The vision was to take the Rio Olympics branding and adapt it to the NBC visual language with a modern take. These are moodboards created to showcase look & feel, typography, core UI, module designs, badges, headers, etc... before we started full page designs. This was the direction chosen by our NBC client that turned into the final designs with some slight adjustments.

Design Moodboards - #2

This was an alternate direction that was closer to the Rio Olympics global branding. More curvy, organic and playful.
